From the recording With a little help from my friends
This track is a cover of two songs mashed up by two completely different genre artists, including "You Say" by Lauren Daigle and "In My Blood" by Shawn Mendes. I thought that combining the messages of these two songs created a poignant message that addresses our common downfalls as humans, yet we are still affirmed as children of God in the midst of it all. I invited my student pop-troupe ensemble (The NOC Roustabouts) to join me on this track for an experience all around!
Lyrics
I keep fighting voices in my mind that say "I'm not enough"
(Help me, it's like the walls are caving in)
Every single lie that tells me, "I will never measure up"
(Sometimes I feel like giving up, but I just can't. It isn't in my blood)
Am I more than just the sum of every high and every low?
(Lying on the bathroom floor, feeling anxious,)
(I'm overwhelmed and insecure, give me something)
Remind me once again just who I am, because I need to know
(Sometimes I feel like giving up, no medicine is strong enough)
Someone help me
Just have a drink, and you'll feel better
Keep telling me that it gets better
Does it ever?
You say I am loved
When I can't feel a thing
You say I am strong
When I think I am week
You say I am held
When I am falling short
And when I don't belong
Oh, you say I am yours...
(Help me, help me, help me, help me)
I'm looking through my phone again, feeling anxious
Afraid to be alone again, I hate this...
(Only thing that matters now, is everything you think of me)
I'm trying to find a way to chill, can't breathe
Oh, is there somebody that can help me
(In you I find my worth, in you I find my identity)
It's like the walls are caving in
You say I am loved
When I can't feel a thing
You say I am strong
When I think I am week
You say I am held
When I am falling short
And when I don't belong
Oh, you say I am yours...
I need somebody now
I need somebody now
(I keep fighting voices in my mind but you say I am loved)
You say I am loved,
I need somebody now
Taking all I have and now I'm laying it at your feet
You'll have every failure, God
You'll have every victory
You say I am loved
When I can't feel a thing
You say I am strong
When I think I am week
You say I am held
When I am falling short
And when I don't belong
Oh, you say I am yours
And I believe
What you say of me
I believe
Yes, I believe
