From the recording With a little help from my friends
This song is a cover of Five-Year Gap band's "Stumbling" from their 2022 self-titled album. My friend Ciara Brooke gave me the honor of reimaging and arranging this song for my debut release. I slowed it down and composed a cello obligato, which my friend Jeremy Sheets performed beautifully. This is an emotional song that addresses our human tendency to make mistakes and the need for friendship to help us through.
Lyrics
The clock tells me I'm getting older
But I don't feel like I know more than I did yesterday
And if I'm being honest, I think I know less
'Cause I keep on making the same mistakes.
All of these voices tell me,
"Boy, follow your heart."
But if I look inside myself,
Well, my heart, it stops.
I keep stumbling
I keep stumbling
I keep stumbling
I keep stumbling
So much to do, yet so little time
Oh, I feel like I'm losing my freakin' mind
Overwhelmed by the weight of obligation
So, I just find myself waiting and waiting
All of these voices tell me,
"Girl, follow your heart"
But if I look inside myself,
My heart is dark
I keep stumbling
I keep stumbling
I keep stumbling
I keep stumbling
I could use a helping hand
Will you reach out again?
Will you reach out again?
All of these voices tell me,
"Boy, follow your heart..."
I keep stumbling
I keep stumbling
I keep stumbling
I keep stumbling
Reach out again
Reach out again
The clock tells me I'm getting older
But I've still got time,
There's a chance to get back up again.
