From the recording The Human Experience
This song expresses the frustration of being used and taken advantage of by others. I framed it in an edgy and angsty rock style that supports the sentiment of the lyrics. I had the honor of collaborating in performance with a former college friend, Kyle Lacy.
Lyrics
How much?
How much?
Why am I the one who has to get it done?
Why am I the one to depend upon?
Why do they choose me in the face of their adversity?
Tell me, why is it me you trod on endlessly?
All of my kindness
Taken for weakness
Lord, help me, Jesus
'Cause I can't take it anymore
(How much?)
Why not just take all of me?
(How much?)
There's nothing left far as I can see
(How much?)
It seems I've given you my all
(How much?)
Just watching me fall, watching me crawl
(How much?)
Why am I constantly dragged through the waste,
Expected to come up a rose through every case?
And you incessantly demand of me
To fake reality, alter my personality
All of my kindness
Taken for weakness
Lord, help me, Jesus
'Cause I can't take it anymore
(How much?)
Why not just take all of me?
(How much?)
There's nothing left far as I can see
(How much?)
It seems I've given you my all
(How much?)
Just watching me fall, watching me crawl
(How much?)
I don't know if I can take it
(Just watching me fall, watching me crawl)
How much? (Yeah!)
(Just watching me fall, watching me crawl)
So, tell me what if I can't do it?
You know you really put me through it
Kept using me until you used me up
Constantly watching me fall,
Watching me crawl
Standing on me like a crutch
All of my kindness
Taken for weakness
Lord, help me, Jesus
'Cause I can't take it anymore
(How much?)
Why not just take all of me?
(How much?)
There's nothing left far as I can see
(How much/)
It seems I've given you my all
(How much?)
Just waching me fall, watching me crawl
(How much?
